Creating personable, long lasting experiences in traditional and digital arts education

Who am I?

Hi! I'm Lucas Crain, a self-taught artist in Williamsburg, VA. I am a passionately creative individual and have been infatuated by drawing ever since I could hold a pencil!
I graduated college in 2023 at Rowan University in NJ, with a B.S. in Music Technology. Ever since I finished, I have done various freelance projects over the years, from art and music creation for independent video games, mixing Singles, EPs and albums for independent artists, to experience in sound design and music editing for theatrical trailers. This time taught me the importance of the creative process, and the power that I have as a visual storyteller. My ability to draw has always been there for me, and has provided a strong emotional outlet during tough times in my life. My goal and greatest joy is to share this ability with anyone willing, and prove to them that true desire, passion, and practice can get them where they want to be as an artist.
My Mission:
My goal is to create personable experiences in arts education. I want to share my knowledge with anyone willing to learn! I find immense joy in the process of creating illustrations. I think drawing is a timeless act of utility, creativity, and self expression. Everything I teach can also be applied to your own projects in any mediums that interest you, like painting, watercolor, and even sculpting!

"Lucas Crain is a very talented artist and teacher. I can attest to Lucas’ patience, effective communication skills, encouraging style, and empathetic understanding of the developmental process involved in fostering the growth of artistic expression."
- Richard Hammer, my Grandfather!

PROCESS OVER PRODUCT
After their initial lesson, participants will have the option to continue in one on one and smaller group settings. I will guide you step by step through fundamentals like construction, perspective, composition, shape language, and rendering. Students will learn the inner workings of designing characters, painting beautiful landscapes, and creating lifelike portraits of family, friends, and pets. I am confident that with my guidance and your steady practice, we will be able to give you the ability to tell your own stories with visuals.
Go at your own pace
I believe that the quickest, most effective and fun way to learn art is to simply draw what you care the most about! Each piece is an opportunity for self expression and an opportunity to learn something new. When you work with me, the first question I ask is what do YOU want to learn how to draw? My grandfather started with horses! Easy!
